According to 9 News, a major multiple car accident along 1-25 caused lane closures as well as some serious injuries. The accident occurred on Saturday around 3:15pm in the southbound lanes of I-25 at Colfax Avenue. A vehicle lost control driving south on the highway and collided with a truck. Both drivers appeared to be alright but a child located in the vehicle was injured and rushed to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries. Police are still investigating the scene and it is still unclear why the car lost control as weather did not seem to have played a role. Whenever we go to the doctor’s office, we have an expectation in our minds that we will be cared for, and treated effectively by the doctor. Of course, people understand that doctors are human like the rest of us, and like everyone else, they make mistakes. Unfortunately, sometimes the mistakes that doctors make can cause tremendous harm to their patients. Nevertheless, it is important to remember that doctors are human like the rest of us. In rare cases, the mistake made by the doctor may be so large, and the harm caused to the patient may be so severe, that the patient, or his or her family if the mistake causes the patient’s death, may feel that they have no choice but to file a medical malpractice claim against the doctor.
Medical malpractice claims are very complicated and very expensive to pursue, and as a result, in order to bring action, your case will need to include several features in order to be viable. It is important that you contact a Colorado medical malpractice lawyer to help you through the process. The first and most important feature involves what is called standard of care. While there is not a code of concrete standards of care for various medical procedures like there are standards of behavior for driving, there is a standard that medical professionals are expected to meet. In order to establish that the standard of care was not met, your attorney will hire an expert in the relevant medical field to comment on what the standard is, and how in your case the standard was not met. Next, the failure of the doctor to meet the standard must have caused significant injury. If failure to meet the standard of care causes minor injury or harm, then there may not be justification to bring legal action, given the cost and difficulty of medical malpractice claims. Finally, it must be possible to prove what he injury is; how it affects the patients life, and how it will continue to affect the physical and financial well-being of the patient into the future.
If you believe that you have been injured by the negligence of a medical professional, speak with an experienced Colorado medical malpractice lawyer as soon as possible. Medical malpractice cases are so complicated and so costly that the sooner after your injury you are able to speak with an attorney the better. William P. Godsman has the experience you need to understand the system, and can explain whether you have a claim or not. In many cases, even if you have been injured by a medical professional who failed to meet the standard of care, there may not be justification to file a claim. Will can help you understand your situation, and guide you as to whether you have a claim or not. For more information and a FREE CONSULTATION, contact Will Godsman at (303)455-6900.
Brain injuries can occur in many different ways but no matter the cause, brain injuries are some of the most devastating and painful injuries one can endure. The NPR.org website recently reported a tragic story about a woman who suffered a traumatic brain injury due to a complication during surgery. Gweneviere Mann experienced a stroke due to an operation in 2008 to remove a brain tumor. The woman has suffered from short term memory loss ever since. It is now difficult for Mann to remember much details of her day and ultimately her life. Things that we all take for granted on a day to day basis such as today’s date and remembering when to eat lunch, is a constant struggle that Mann now has to conquer. Tricks such as keeping note cards in her pockets reminding her about the events that she has completed throughout the day helps maintain stability throughout her daily life. Mann also participates in marathons with her boyfriend to encourage herself to remain upbeat and optimistic about what abilities she does still possess. Even though this is a frustrating and discouraging situation, Mann is determined to fight and persevere through her disability.
Have you been injured in a medical malpractice and have questions concerning your case? Contact a Colorado medical malpractice attorney to further discuss your legal rights.
Doctors are responsible to see to it that you receive the best treatment to their ability. The brain is able to heal itself up to two years after the injury and after that any symptoms are most likely to remain permanent. Mann does not struggle with any other symptoms and presents as a very normal woman in every other aspect of her life. Because brain injuries vary in location and severity it can be very difficult to determine treatment for recovery.

On the morning of Sunday October 7th, firefighters responded to a call of a woman feeling ill. Upon searching the Denver home, the firefighters on site discovered that the house contained highly hazardous levels of carbon monoxide. The source of the deadly carbon monoxide levels appeared to be a faulty “old furnace”. The firefighters stated the residence did not contain a carbon monoxide detector and fans were used to aid in the removal of the carbon monoxide buildup within the home. The victim was taken to a local hospital for further treatment; no updates on her condition have been made available.

Two children have been run over by vehicles while playing in driveways in Denver. Both accidents occurred within 24 hours of each other in two different parts of the Denver area. A one year old boy was killed after a black pickup truck backed into him off of the 4300 block of York Street. A day before this horrific accident occurred, other one year old was critically injured after her mother ran her over in the driveway. The incident occurred at their home on South Xavier Street. Russ Eldore, owner of the 911 Driving School, states in the Colorado News Leader that drivers need to be constantly aware of their surroundings. Everyone should pay close attention when backing out of driveways and parking lots and check all rearview mirrors for small children, bicyclists, or skateboarders.
Twenty five percent of all accidents that occur are caused by distracted drivers. Many of these accidents can easily be prevented by simply taking the time to observe your surroundings and to concentrate of the road. When driving in residential areas it is important to be constantly aware since children are at play and are not always aware of vehicles. Consider opening your windows before backing out, so you can use your ears (as well as your eyes) to monitor for danger.

The Justice News Flash reported that the railroad lights and signals were working correctly at the time of the incident, and it is still unsure whether the cyclist was riding his bike or walking it across the tracks at the time of the accident. Police are still investigating what exactly happened at the scene.

As noted in a recent Denver News item, a 17-year-old North Lincoln High School student was killed and six other people injured in an auto accident involving at least four vehicles on East Highway 150 near Lake Norman on May 26th, 2011. Sadly, catastrophic Denver car accidents, like this one, occur with worrisome regularity—even in warm summer months.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the CSP investigates 30% of all crashes in Colorado and attends to over 27,000 crashes across the state. These accidents are often severe and leave victims with significant injuries that result in permanent disability and even death.
Drive defensively
In order to avoid multi-car collisions with significant injuries, all Denver drivers are urged to driver defensively. Wise drivers assume that they are “invisible” to other drivers, and drive defensively to maintain the widest possible clearances and following distances between other vehicles on the road. Defensive drivers are aware that other motorists may be intoxicated or otherwise impaired, or perhaps underage or uninsured. According to anecdotal reports, many of the chain collisions in the Denver area have occurred when “packs” of motorists fail to maintain safe following distances, especially during crowded rush-hour conditions.
